Women Empowerment

Women empowerment is one of the major thematic areas of JMBS. We aim to enhance the rights, opportunities and influence of women in various spheres of life socially, economically and politically. We are working to create a supportive environment for women to pursue their dreams, assert their rights and participate actively in social, economic and political activities to emerge as an influential leader. Women’s rights, Leadership development,gender-based violence, entrepreneurship skills, participation at community, province and federal level, legal awareness etc. are some of the issues that we consider as major challenges that need to be addressed. We are working with local women, youths, adolescents and women leaders to ensure that women’s rights are protected, promoted and practiced at all levels.

Jagaruk Mahila Bikash Samuha (JMBS) provided 3 days’ Capacity Building training to 19 local women of Konjyosom Rural Municipality, Lalitpur district on 26th - 28th May 2024. The training was organized aiming to strengthen the leadership capacity of women by enhancing their communication and negotiation skills, problem solving and decision-making skills.

JMBS organized two days’ training on Animal husbandry and Vegetable Farming for local women of Bhardeu, Konjyosom-5 of Lalitpur district on 26 and 27th September 2024 with support from TEWA. A total of 24 women participated in the training. Among them, 13 women participated in Animal Husbandry and 11 on Vegetable Farming. The training on Animal Husbandry intended to provide information on cow and buffalo farming, pig and goat farming and poultry farming, its management, various diseases, cure and preventive measures. Similarly, Vegetable Farming training aimed to provide information on cultivation techniques, diseases and preventive measures of tomato, chili, cauliflower, leafy green vegetables and root and tuber vegetables. Both trainings were conducted simultaneously with two separate groups.

Training on Local level Business Plan making

JMBS conducted 2 days’ local level Business plan making training with financial support from TEWA at Bhardeu, Konjyosom Rural Municipality on 29th and 30th November 2024. The training was conducted with objectives to enable local women to develop business plans analyzing their local socio-economic context and learn to identify ways to market their products. The participants of the training were 19 local women of Bhardev. At the end of the training three groups were formed who were ready to expand their business on goat farming, pig farming and vegetable farming. They also prepared a draft of the aforementioned businesses in groups and submitted to JMBS.

Empowerment Opportunity with Seed Money Support

Jagaruk Mahila Bikash Samuha (JMBS) with financial support from TEWA provided seed money support of NRs 150,000.00 to 3 women groups of Bhardeu, Konjyosom on 3rd January 2025 as Income Generation Activity supports for Pig farming, Goat farming and Vegetable farming. Each groups received NRs 50,000.00. The seed money was provided to women who participated in various capacity building trainings under “Women Empowerment Project” organized by Jagaruk Mahila Bikas Samuha. The purpose of the support was to encourage them to expand their income generation activities so that they could generate more profit which in turn would uplift their living status in future. The fund was distributed to women groups in presence of ward female representative of Bhardeu Ms Shrijana Lama.

Reproductive Health Training for Female Community Health Volunteers

JMBS conducted 2 days' Reproductive Health Training for 41 Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs) from 5 wards of Konjyosom Rural Municipality. The training was conducted to upgrade the knowledge and skill of the FCHVs to enhance the delivery of reproductive health services at local level. The capacity building training was conducted in close collaboration with the Health Section of the Rural Municipality for finalizing training content, coordination with all health posts for information dissemination to all FCHVs and local facilitator selection.

Care Package distribution with Ncell logo containing food and clothing items to Postnatal mothers and Pregnant Women

JMBS provided care packages for 81 new mothers and 55 pregnant women to promote health of mother and children and encourage pregnant women to choose institutional delivery with recommended number of antenatal visits. The care package for new mothers included warm clothes for mother and child, baby blanket and a tote bag. Similarly, the package for pregnant women included eggs, cooking oil, satu and chickpea.

JMBS conducted a one day Need Assessment workshop for 15 local women of Bhardeu, Konjyosom Rural Municipality to discuss their current livelihood practices in the village and exploring new possibilities and skills required for better life.

Training on Off-seasonal vegetables and local level business plan

JMBS conducted 5 days training on Off-seasonal vegetable cultivation and local level business plan participated by 15 women of Bhardeu, ward-5 Konjyosom Rural Municipality to discuss on various diseases and pests that harm good yield for farmers. The training also discussed on significance of making a business plan at local level and its contents.
